Purpose
The very purpose of education also follows Darwin's theorem , which tells development is a continuous process. Debate about purposes of education never seems to end. Should young people become educated to get prepared to enter the workforce or should the purpose of education be forced more on social, academic, cultural and intellectual development.
Knowledge of the natural and engineered environments and how people live in the world is critical to all three purposes of education. Critical thinking, creativity, interpersonal skills and a sense of social responsibility all influence success in life, work and citizenship.
Another widely accepted purpose of education system : to develop the intellect, to serve social need, to contribute to the economy, to create an effective workforce, to prepare students for their career and to promote social or political system.
In a nutshell in India, purposes of education take care of following :
- Removal of unemployment.
- Removal of poverty.
- Rural development.
- Adult literacy.
- Leadership development.
Education System In India
The current education system improvising everyday has caught everyone's eyes including people outside India. Indian education system have its own strength and weaknesses. One can not claim that present system is the best one then we will close the door for further development. But to speak the truth,the education system which is responsible for redefining a human being into some talented persona who succeeds in accomplishing his dream is a good education system.
Presently Indian education system comprises of pre- primary, primary, secondary and senior secondary education which is followed by higher education. Overall education in India is all about :
Expenditure on education has been set for 2015-2016 as Rs 68960 crore which is approximately 4% of GDP. Compare this with Kothari commission ( set up 1964-65) and National Education policy recommendation suggestion of allocating 6% of GDP towards education.
Government has set a target of increasing Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) for higher education from 15% to 30% by year 2020. Click here for more information
Privatization of higher education has increased quantitative aspect but as per Sonalde Desai, senior fellow,National Council For Applied Economics Research " Rapid democratization of education has led to our existing screening process and exam barrier failing us. But this challenge is good to have."
Development should be Quantitatively as well as Qualitatively in education.
Curriculum, up to secondary level where it is inflexible, should be such that it does not create a phobia among student.
Curriculum for higher education instead of instrumental it should be of knowing the practical uses.
You may give your opinion whether present education system is fulfilling basic requirement of education or it require some changes.
- Preparing children to read and absorb.
- About memorizing with study materials.
- About academic performance.
- Have large class or number of teacher for number of student is more.
- Academic achieves more preferences than other achievements.
- Education system is less flexible.
- Indian curriculum are much more instrumental.

I am an educator, here I share my experience
Today, an education in pure science or liberal art or any degree that does not guarantee a job is a risk education.Development should be Quantitatively as well as Qualitatively in education.
