Live- in relationship means that cohabitation of a couple, who are in love with each other, prefer to stay together without getting married to each other. This phenomenon is quite common in western countries and showing its visibility in India also.
We are all aware of the facts that much progressive India is still traditional in its base. However marriage is no longer is consecrate coming of age ritual it once was. Harish Shetty, a renowned psychiatrist and expert on relation issues, attributes this new, uninhibited attitude to love to the greater level of exposure today's youth enjoy.
Professor P.G.Jogdand, a former head of Mumbai University's sociology department, says "there is a lot of angst and restlessness among the youth these days".
"Live-in-relationship" term might be new but concept is very old. In the Vedas, Gandharva type of marriage is mentioned in which a man and a woman mutually consent to get married. This neither involves family of the couple nor particular ritual to solemnize the the marriage.
Today's Indian youth due to their financially independence opine that it is their right to live as they want and with the person they want. In educated and upper class societies of India, Westernization and live in relationship is gaining its significance.
Younger generation might consider live in relationship to be convenient, free from legal hassles and forward looking. However it is with only ideal cases. In reality it is quite different.
To ensure that dignity is maintained in such relationship a bench of justices MY Eqbal and Amitava Roy of Supreme Court, ruled that a couple living together for a number of years would rightfully lead them to presume that the couple was, for all intents and purposes married. The bench also added that woman in relationship would be eligible to inherit the property after the death of her partner.

At times question is not that whether live in relationships are right or wrong or following of western cultures are good or bad, the question arises that how much we are paying price to achieve all these. Are we following all these due our pseudo forwardness? Have Indians totally forgotten their own culture and its significance? It is not that Indian youth do not have faith in institution of marriage but their priorities have been changed.
In my opinion if you can't accept the situation, where your son or daughter show sexual gesture along with their partner in front of you, shows that you are still Indian from your heart.
